How does YAML to .env conversion work?

What YAML types are supported?

Strings, numbers, booleans (true/false become the strings "true"/"false"), null values (become empty strings), nested objects, and arrays are all supported. Multi-line strings are collapsed to a single line. Arrays can be rendered as comma-separated values or as indexed keys (LIST_0, LIST_1, etc.).

Is my configuration data safe?

Can I add a prefix to all environment variable keys?

What separator should I use for nested keys?

Single underscore (_) is the most common and widely supported. Use double underscore (__) if any of your YAML keys themselves contain underscores and you need to distinguish nesting levels. For Docker Compose v2 env_file, single underscore is recommended.
